Staying true even online
It’s easy to be someone else on social media. Whether that “person” is more outgoing than you are, has a different sense of humor than you do, sounds more upbeat than your real self ever does … you can be anything you want to be online.
I admit, back when I was only starting to explore the internet, back when Facebook doesn’t exist and Hi5 and myspace was dominant, I did fake a personality (name included) and what I learned is that, social media or not, it’s the same difficult to fake yourself. I soon got tired of the faking and the worse part of it is that you get emotionally exhausted. Staying true even online is a tough thing. Because its a digital words and feelings doesnt have a value here. We can hurt others easily likewise we can make false promises easily. Its all up to us how much we are truly ready to expose ourself to the world. But if you that is mandate? i dont think so. I’m not 100% sure I understand everything you wrote, but of course we should never share everything online, but we don’t have to change our personality. What I meant was that I don’t want to pretend to someone I’m not, like trying to act like an extrovert when I’m in fact more of an introvert, or showing everyone how “cool” I am without taking a breath and chill out. For me showing a fake personality is exhausting, that’s like actor living in a character all the time…

Back at my very first blogging site Journalspace, there was a satanist in San Francisco who didn’t like my writing an on-line vampire novel.
He used to harass me by making nasty comments about me in comments on my other friends’ blogs.
So I created a fake persona- an Irish newspaper correspondent who supposedly lived in Moscow, Russia – to troll him.
Anyways with my knowledge of geopolitics and also Russian affairs, I managed somehow to convince a whole bunch of other people at the site- including many of the best and most intelligent bloggers at the site that I was indeed an Irish newspaper man living in Moscow.
I used to have more people read that blog than my vampire novel and got more mails from people to me as my alias.
I remember I wrote one whopper of a story that I had once interviewed Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger and made a bet with him that he’d be elected the next Pope.
Then I claimed I had received a box of Irish whisky from him in winning the bet when he was elected Pope.
That blog post actually appeared in an Irish newspaper on-line and people were wondering who this Irish newsman in Moscow was who made a bet with Ratzinger that he’d become Pope.
I wrote another whopper of a story that I had once danced with then Ukrainian Prime Minister Julia Tymoshnko at a costume ball in Kiev.
But I finally got sick of fooling people and stopped writing that blog.
