Writer's Rambling

Stuck in between

I’ve always been a pantser ever since I started writing stories back in 2012. After all, I never plan anything when I write poems, I just write and that’s it. It’s exciting to simply sit down and start writing and let the character decide which route to take, but that gets troublesome after a while because I become prone to writer’s block. I did not know the term back then, but after suffering from a repeated problem and I decided to plot a little.

As I write more books I come to know the terms. Planner and pantser. I’m both so I’ve always wondered what to call myself. And it wasn’t until 2016 that I’ve come across the term plantser in Nanowrimo. Has it always been there?

Nanowrimo 2020

From Wikiwrimo:

A plantser is an author who combines planning and pantsing methods to prepare for their novel. Usually, people who claim to be this type of author enjoy how pantsing allows their creativity to strive more, however they plan some of it out so that it doesn’t wander off into plotless ramblings that require intense revisions and rewrites when the draft is done.

I’m joining Nanowrimo again this year. It’s gonna be tough because it’s the busiest season and working at home with a 4-year-old isn’t as fun as it sounds. But not joining the challenge like in 2019 will make the year incomplete. So, win it or not, I’m taking the plunge.

Wish me luck!
